Jordan policy interest rate

The Main Policy Rate is the Central Bank of Jordan's own designated key rate — the rate it publishes at the head of its 'Interest Rates on Monetary Policy Instruments' table and the rate its press releases call the 'Key Interest Rate of the Central Bank'. It is set by the CBJ's Open Market Operations Committee, which meets roughly eight times a year and normally makes decisions effective the following Sunday. The main rate sits inside a corridor: the Overnight Deposit Window Rate is the floor, the Overnight Repurchase (Repo) Rate and the Rediscount (Discount) Rate sit above it. Because the Jordanian dinar is pegged to the US dollar, the CBJ tracks the US Federal Reserve rather than running an independent stance.

What this value means

CORRECTION TO THE BRIEF: the CBJ's main rate is NOT the overnight deposit window rate. The CBJ publishes four distinct rates and names the first of them the Main Policy Rate; as of the 14/12/2025 update of https://www.cbj.gov.jo/EN/List/Interest_Rates these are — Main Policy Rate 5.75%, Rediscount (Discount) Rate 6.75%, Overnight Repo Rate 6.50%, Overnight Deposit Window Rate 5.50%. The deposit window is the corridor FLOOR, 25bp BELOW the served rate; the rediscount rate is 100bp above it. Serving the deposit window (5.50%) would understate Jordan's policy stance by a quarter point. PEG: the dinar has been pegged to the US dollar since 23 October 1995 at JOD 0.709 per USD (1 JOD ≈ USD 1.41), so the Open Market Operations Committee moves in step with the Federal Reserve — the 2024–25 easing cycle was a mirror of the Fed's, delivered as a run of 25bp steps effective on Sundays. HISTORY OF THE CURRENT LEVEL: the 25bp cut to 5.75% was decided on 11 Dec 2025 (8th meeting of 2025) and took effect Sunday 14 Dec 2025; the preceding 25bp cut to 6.00% was decided on 30 Oct 2025 (7th meeting) effective Sunday 2 Nov 2025; a further 25bp cut to 6.25% was decided at the 6th meeting on 18 Sep 2025 effective Sunday 21 Sep 2025 (that step is press-reported via Jordan News reporting the CBJ statement, not read from a CBJ PDF here — DO NOT SERVE THE 21 SEP 2025 DATE AS FACT without the CBJ release). HELD THROUGHOUT 2026: the Committee left the rate at 5.75% at its first, second, third and fourth meetings of 2026; the fourth meeting decision of 18 June 2026 is confirmed word-for-word in the CBJ's own press release ('decided to maintain the key interest rate of the Central Bank at its current rate of 5.75%', https://www.cbj.gov.jo/ebv4.0/root_storage/en/eb_list_page/press_release_18-6-2026.pdf). No fifth-meeting decision existed on the CBJ press-release list as at 24 July 2026 (latest item was an 8 July 2026 SWIFT-users item), so 5.75% is the level at confirmation. SOURCE-WATCHER NOTE: the CBJ website is reachable and its press releases follow a stable, guessable URL pattern (ebv4.0/root_storage/en/eb_list_page/press_release_D-M-YYYY.pdf, single-digit day/month, no leading zeros); the rate table page carries its own 'last updated' date, which is the cheapest change signal. Supporting macro from the 18 Jun 2026 release: FX reserves USD 27.2bn at end-May 2026 (9.5 months of imports), inflation 1.88% over the first five months of 2026.
