Saudi Arabia policy interest rate

The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) Repurchase Agreement (Repo) rate — the rate at which SAMA provides overnight liquidity to banks against eligible collateral, and the headline of SAMA's two administered policy rates. Because the Saudi riyal is pegged to the US dollar at SAR 3.75, SAMA has no independent rate cycle and moves in lockstep with the US Federal Reserve to defend the peg; decisions are announced within hours of the FOMC.

What this value means

TWO POLICY RATES, PEG-DRIVEN. SAMA operates a corridor with two administered rates: the REPO RATE (the ceiling — SAMA lends overnight to banks) currently 4.25%, served here as the headline, and the REVERSE REPO RATE (the floor — banks deposit surplus liquidity with SAMA) currently 3.75%. Both were cut 25bps on 10 December 2025 (Repo 4.50%->4.25%, Reverse Repo 4.00%->3.75%), the same day the US FOMC cut the federal funds target range by 25bps to 3.50-3.75%. THE MECHANISM: the riyal has been pegged at SAR 3.75 = USD 1 since 1986; to hold the peg and prevent destabilising capital flows, SAMA must keep its rates broadly aligned with the Fed and therefore mirrors FOMC moves within hours rather than running an independent inflation-targeting cycle. The 50bps gap between the Repo (4.25%) and the Fed's upper bound (3.75%) is SAMA's normal spread; the Reverse Repo (3.75%) sits at the Fed's upper bound. SAIBOR (the Saudi interbank offered rate) trades inside the SAMA corridor. Unchanged since 10 Dec 2025 through the confirmation date because the Fed has held its range since (June 2026 FOMC maintained 3.50-3.75%); SAMA has made no move in 2026. SOURCE ACCESS: SAMA's Repo Rate and Reverse Repo Rate pages under /en-US/MonetaryPolicy/MonetaryPolicyTools/ render the current figure and its 10/12/2025 date to a plain client; the older news-release .aspx pages (e.g. /en-US/News/Pages/news-1124.aspx) and the /MonetaryOperations/pages/officialreporate.aspx page intermittently return HTTP 404 to non-browser clients, so the Monetary Policy Tools pages are the reliable primary source.
