Oman policy interest rate

The Repo Rate is the interest rate at which the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) injects rial liquidity into licensed banks through repurchase operations against eligible collateral. It is CBO's principal policy/liquidity-injection rate and the rate CBO quotes in every weekly Treasury-bill announcement. Because the Rial Omani is pegged to the US dollar, CBO does not run an independent stance: it moves the Repo Rate in step with the US Federal Reserve. CBO also operates a Treasury Bills Discounting Facility at a higher rate (4.75% at confirmation), which is a standing facility, not the policy rate.

What this value means

Served value is the CBO Repo Rate = 4.25%, confirmed in CBO's OWN publications: the weekly T-bill tender notice of 20 Jul 2026 (https://cbo.gov.om/news/764) and, independently, CBO's 'Review of Banking and Monetary Developments – May 2026' (https://cbo.gov.om/news/762), which states the average repo rate applied by CBO for liquidity injections declined from 5.000% to 4.250%. PEG: monetary policy is subordinated to the fixed peg of the Rial Omani to the US dollar at USD 2.6008 per RO (i.e. OMR 0.38450 per USD), unchanged since the 1986 parity change — see CBO, https://cbo.gov.om/Pages/FixedPeg.aspx and CBO's monetary-policy page (https://cbo.gov.om/Pages/MonetaryPolicy.aspx), which states that 'the monetary policy of the CBO is conditioned by the fixed peg of the RO to the US Dollar'. CBO therefore tracks the US Federal Reserve rather than setting rates for domestic conditions; the 4.25% level dates from the Fed's 10 Dec 2025 cut, and CBO has held it through every subsequent Fed hold (the Fed's 17 Jun 2026 implementation note keeps the funds target at 3.50-3.75%). EFFECTIVE DATE CAVEAT: CBO does not publish a standalone dated rate-decision page; the cut was announced on Thursday 11 Dec 2025 (Reuters and Omani press reporting CBO, one day after the FOMC), and effective_from is set to that date. It is bracketed by CBO's own notices: the 30 Oct 2025 step to 4.50% was stated effective Thursday 30 Oct 2025, and CBO's T-bill notice of 14 Dec 2025 (https://cbo.gov.om/news/708) already quotes 4.25%. ACCESS NOTE: cbo.gov.om carries no numeric rate on its monetary-policy pages and /Pages/MonetaryandCreditConditions.aspx returns 404; the reliable machine-readable anchor for this series is the weekly T-bill news item, which restates the repo and discount rates every week. Do NOT confuse the Repo Rate with (a) the 4.75% Treasury-bill discounting rate, (b) T-bill auction yields (3.3-3.9% at the 20 Jul 2026 tender), or (c) the overnight interbank rate (3.375% in May 2026).
