Jordan public holidays
Jordan's official public holidays for calendar year 2026. Jordan has no single annual holiday decree: the Prime Minister issues a separate official circular (بلاغ رسمي) ahead of each occasion suspending work in all ministries, official departments, public institutions and bodies, official universities, municipalities, joint services councils, the Greater Amman Municipality and wholly government-owned companies, with an exemption for entities whose nature of work requires them to keep operating. The Islamic holidays move with the Hijri calendar and depend on official moon sighting; the national and Christian holidays are fixed. The Jordanian weekend is Friday and Saturday.

SPANS, NOT SINGLE DAYS: Jordan's Eid circulars declare a continuous span and every day in it is listed above so a working-days calculation is correct without further interpretation. Eid al-Fitr 2026 — the Prime Minister's circular of 11 Mar 2026 set the holiday 'from the morning of Friday 20 March to the evening of Monday 23 March', work resuming Tue 24 Mar (Petra headline: 'تحديد عُطلة عيد الفطر السَّعيد اعتباراً من صباح الجمعة الموافق للعشرين من آذار وحتى مساء يوم الاثنين الموافق للثَّالث والعشرين منه'). Some secondary trackers report 19-22 March for Jordan — that is WRONG; the circular is 20-23 March. Eid al-Adha 2026 — circular of 27 Apr 2026, holiday from the morning of Tuesday 26 May to the evening of Saturday 30 May, work resuming Sun 31 May; Independence Day, Monday 25 May, was announced in the same batch, so 25-30 May is a continuous six-day public-sector shutdown in 2026. LABOUR DAY: the statutory occasion is 1 May, but in 2026 it fell on a Friday inside the Fri-Sat weekend, so the Prime Minister moved the closure to Thursday 30 April (Circular No. 6 of 15 Apr 2026) to give a three-day break — 30 April is the day that is actually non-working, which is why it, and not 1 May, carries the date field. ISRA AND MI'RAJ is served with a warning label rather than omitted: Jordan RECOGNISES it (a 2005 government decision lists it among the commemorated religious and national occasions) but does NOT suspend work for it, and no closure circular is issued; in 2026 it fell on Friday 16 January in any case. Treating it as a non-working day would be wrong. NOT YET DECREED AT CONFIRMATION (24 Jul 2026): the Mawlid al-Nabi date of 25 Aug 2026 is the astronomical 12 Rabi al-Awwal 1448 and is consistent with the 16 Jun 2026 start of 1448 that the Government itself decreed, but the Prime Ministerial circular had not issued and the date can shift a day on moon sighting — Mawlid IS a closure holiday in Jordan (the 2025 circular closed government for Thursday 4 Sep 2025). Christmas Day 25 Dec 2026 is likewise a recurring closure whose circular normally issues in December; Jordan additionally granted 26 December to Jordanian Christians in 2025. PRIVATE SECTOR: the Ministry of Labour issues its own notice extending the Prime Minister's Eid circulars to private-sector employees; private-sector entitlement can be shorter than the public-sector span. ACCESS PROBLEMS: pm.gov.jo — which hosts the circulars themselves, including a standing page listing the official religious and national holidays — and mol.gov.jo and mfa.gov.jo are unreachable from this location (ECONNREFUSED / HTTP 403). Petra (petra.gov.jo), the official state news agency, IS reachable and is the source of record used here; note that Petra's legacy article URLs (Include/InnerPage.jsp?ID=...) now return 'content not available' and only the /en/news/<slug> form resolves.
