Iraq inflation rate (CPI)
Official monthly Consumer Price Index for the whole of Iraq, base year 2022 = 100, compiled and published by the Central Statistical Organization (هيأة الإحصاء ونظم المعلومات الجغرافية) of the Ministry of Planning. Weights derive from the 2022 household expenditure structure, with expenditure weights modelled from the 2012 social and economic survey and the 2017/2018 SWIFT survey; from January 2024 the agency moved to a chained index with a moving base (the preceding month as base) under IMF/METAC technical supervision, with the chain linked back to 2022 weights. The basket covers 803 items in 486 varieties across the 12 COICOP divisions.

What this value means
Latest OFFICIAL month is MAY 2026: general CPI 111.2 points (base 2022=100), month-on-month -1.2%, year-on-year +3.0%. Figures read directly out of the CSO's own May 2026 PDF bulletin (paragraphs 1 and 2 and Table 1). Core CPI (التضخم الأساس — general index excluding fresh fruit and vegetables from the food division) was 110.8, +0.4% m/m and +2.5% y/y. The monthly fall was driven by Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages -3.1% m/m (within which vegetables -18.1%, fruit -12.6% on seasonal supply); Housing/Water/Electricity/Fuel and Transport were broadly flat. Year on year the largest contributions came from housing and from restaurants/hotels (+10.8% y/y). PUBLICATION LAG IS REAL AND SHOULD BE STATED PLAINLY: at the confirmation date of 24 July 2026 the newest published month is MAY 2026, i.e. roughly a two-month lag — the March 2026 bulletin was itself issued in April 2026. The CSO's CPI landing page (https://cosit.gov.iq/ar/stat-index/index-number/cpi) listed January through May 2026 and nothing later. VALUE SERVED IS THE INDEX LEVEL, NOT AN INFLATION RATE. TRAPS: (a) several aggregator trackers report Iraqi 'deflation' and a ~1.2% headline for late 2025 — that is irreconcilable with the CSO's own +3.0% y/y for May 2026 and must not be served; (b) an Arabic search for Iraqi CPI returns Egyptian CSO releases quoting an index of 292.0 points for May 2026 — different country, different base, do not cross-contaminate; (c) the base year is 2022=100, NOT 2012=100 — the 2012 and 2017/2018 surveys are referenced in the methodology only as the source of expenditure weights. ACCESS NOTE: cosit.gov.iq serves only an Arabic site (the /en/ path returns 404) and its bulletins are Arabic PDFs whose right-to-left text extracts poorly; the numeric tables extract cleanly and were used.
